| Water is an important component of the physical body. |
The human body is made up of about 43% to 75% water - depending on age, body fat, water helps reduce etc. If fat is taken out of consideration, the nominal water content is about 72% of body mass - consistent with this source. You could probably survive 4 to eight weeks without food (source), but it is estimated that lack of water can cause death in about 10 days at room temperature source.
2. Water acts as a nourishing agent.
Water circulates through the blood and helps transport nutrients and oxygen to organs and cells. It acts as a solvent for many essential nutrients and salts and makes them available for absorption by the body.
3. Water is a cleaning agent.
It also serves as a means of transporting metabolic waste away from the body - this is done in the form of urine and sweat. Think of it as a detoxifying agent. This is one of the most important functions of water in our body although it is not often appreciated in daily life.

This follows from the above point - increased dehydration causes your cells and tissues to absorb water from the bloodstream and therefore decreases the amount of blood flow (this is probably why blood vessels constrict and therefore increase subsequent vital sign - read #6). The increased vital sign can be a sign that the heart is working harder than it should - it tries to pump more blood to the excretory organs to regain the reduced volume. This can likely make a heart-related illness worse. Sufficient water intake will ensure this does not happen.

In the sweating process, it also removes impurities from the skin and cleanses it - leaving you with younger, healthier looking skin. Dehydrated skin cells can make your skin look wrinkled or saggy.

Feel free to exchange these sugary sodas for water; water is calorie-free - so unlike soft drinks, it's not gaining weight. This works best for people who are already overweight and are controlling their appetite to reduce. If you're anorexic, this isn't for you.
By the way, there is a difference between drinking “enough” water and drinking “too much” water. Like all other excesses, this one also carries its share.
